James Gunn Reveals His Thoughts on Shazam 2 & Vertigo

DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn has spoken a bit about DC’s Vertigo imprint and his plans for those characters, as well as his thoughts on Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

When asked by a Twitter user if Vertigo characters besides Swamp Thing might appear in the DCU, Gunn clarified that Swamp Thing was actually a DC character who simply was used in Vertigo comics, but that they are indeed “dealing with a couple potential things with Vertigo,” which Gunn says he adored.

For clarity, Vertigo was an imprint of DC Comics that published more mature/adult-focused comics, including things like The Sandman and Preacher. Swamp Thing had a comic run under the Vertigo banner, but the character first appeared in the DC series The House of Secrets.

Another user asked if there were any notable DC works that Gunn hadn’t read. The filmmaker responded saying that there probably were, as he’s “more well read on some characters than others.”

Finally, Gunn was asked about his thoughts on Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which is set to release in theaters on March 17. He said he loved it, described it as “a complete blast,” and said the whole crew killed it.

The DC Universe’s first phase, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature a multitude of different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.
