THQ Nordic is back with another shockingly expensive collector’s edition, this time for the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, which is set to release sometime in 2023.

The Collector’s Edition, dubbed the “BFF Edition,” will cost players a whopping $249.99, and comes with a ton of physical and digital goodies. The standout item included in the BFF Edition is a “Cosmic Victory statue,” which stands at 9.8 inches tall and features SpongeBob dressed in his band leader outfit from the Season 2, Episode 15 episode “Band Geeks,” which sees SpongeBob and friends sing “Sweet Victory” in a scene that now has become iconic in pop culture.

Also included in the BFF Edition is an inflatable Patrick Star balloon, a BFF amulet with a necklace, a set of four costume miniature bouncing balls, four placemats, a special box for the game, and an in-game downloadable costume pack to customize your characters with.

Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that a SpongeBob game has received a big fancy version. In 2020, THQ Nordic also released a massive collector’s edition (the “F.U.N. Edition”) for SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, which launched at $299.99, in addition to a $149.99 Shiny Edition. While that collector’s edition was also widely criticized for its price, it seems as if it did well enough for THQ Nordic to introduce another one for its next SpongeBob title. THQ Nordic has done similarly pricey editions for both Destroy All Humans remakes, Biomutant, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, and more.
