Umma Trailer: Sandra Oh Leads Sam Raimi-Produced Horror Film

Sony Pictures has released the official Umma trailer for its upcoming horror thriller, starring Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh. The film is currently slated to arrive in theaters on Friday, March 18.

The video, which you can check out below along with the poster, features Oh as an overprotective mother who keeps her daughter away from technology and other people on a secluded farm. However, with the sudden arrival of her own mother’s remains from South Korea, the quiet and serene life that she has been protecting gets turned into a nightmare, due to the grudging curse it bears.

Umma, which translates to the Korean word for mother, is written and directed by Iris K. Shim. It stars Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Fivel Stewart (Atypical), MeeWha Alana Lee (Awkwafina is Nora from Queens), Tom Yi (The Good Place), Odeya Rush (Goosebumps) and Dermot Mulroney (Insidious: Chapter 3).

“The film follows Amanda (Oh) and her daughter (Stewart) living a quiet life on an American farm, but when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother,” reads the synopsis.

Umma is produced by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead films) and Zainab Azizi through their Raimi Productions banner. Executive producers are Oh, Peter Luo, Cheng Yang, Yedong Mu, Tao Zhou, André Øverdal, Matt Black, Marcei A. Brown, and Jeanette Volturno.
