Black Pumas co-founder Adrian Quesada has shared the new song “El Paraguas,” featuring Gabriel Garzón-Montano. The single also comes with an animated music video, directed by Diego Huacuja, in which a person’s trusty umbrella serves as a shield, a sunset, a trance, and a collection of teardrops alike. “Gabriel Garzón-Montano is a rare talent, a musical chameleon that I’d always wanted to work with,” Quesada said in a statement. “He floats beautifully on a somewhat dense instrumental and brings a unique poetic approach to the song.”
“El Paraguas” is the second single Quesada has shared from his new album Boleros Psicodélicos— due out June 3 via ATO—following “Mentiras con Cariño.” The album is a tribute to the golden era of Latin American balada music, which gained popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and features covers of classic baladas alongside original songs by Quesada.
Quesada’s band Black Pumas have been at the Grammys every year since 2020, when they were nominated for Best New Artist. They were most recently nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Album at the 2022 Grammys.
