Steve Grimmett, the longtime singer of UK metal band Grim Reaper, has died at the age of 62. The sad news was reported on social media by both his brother and his son, with no cause of death reported as of yet.

After the band initially formed in 1979 as part of the new wave of British heavy metal, guitarist Nick Bowcott essentially re-formed Grim Reaper with Grimmett on lead vocals in 1982. The band released three albums: See You in Hell (1983), Fear No Evil (1985), and Rock You to Hell (1987).

After their breakup in 1988, they regained notoriety when their videos were featured on Beavis & Butt-Head in the 1990s.

Grimmett re-formed the band without Bowcott as Steve Grimmett’s Grim Reaper in 2006, and they had been active until the present day. During the group’s second chapter, they released two more albums: Walking in the Shadows (2016) and At the Gates (2019).

In 2017, while on tour in South America, Grimmett suffered an infection in his right leg, which had to be partially amputated. He continued to tour and record with the band, and had announced in early 2022 that Grim Reaper were working on a new album.

His brother Mark Grimmett wrote, “It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I have to tell you all as many of you know him my very talented brother Steve Grimmett very sadly passed away today, my heart goes out to Millie his wife my Mum and Dad, Russell, Sami and Ethan.”

His son Russell added, “Unfortunately, our dad passed away today and leaves a massive hole in the world and our hearts. We are utterly heartbroken. Sleep tight dad. We we always love you xxx.”

Our condolences go out to Steve Grimmett’s family, friends, and bandmates during this difficult time. See a couple of the band’s most popular music videos below.
