Chris Stapleton performed the national anthem ahead of kickoff at the Super Bowl tonight (February 12). The country superstar sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and played guitar to Arizona’s State Farm Stadium as the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs awaited the start of the game. During Stapleton’s rendition of the anthem, the Eagles’ head coach, Nick Sirianni, was visibly moved to tears.
Also ahead of kickoff, Babyface played “America the Beautiful,” and Abbott Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph did “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Rihanna, of course, will play the official halftime show.
Mickey Guyton sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at last year’s Super Bowl, and Jhené Aiko did “America the Beautiful.” The halftime show featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem.
