Apple TV+ has ordered an eight-episode limited series adaptation of Presumed Innocent from David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams.

Based on the acclaimed book of the same name by Scott Turow, the story will be reimagined for the screen by showrunner Kelley, who executive produces the project alongside Abrams, Dustin Thomason, and Ben Stephenson. Kelley’s no stranger to courtroom thrillers with credits like The Undoing, L.A. Law, Boston Legal, and Netflix‘s upcoming Lincoln Lawyer, making him the perfect candidate to helm the project.

Presumed Innocent is a story about a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s Office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. Through this reimagining, Presumed Innocent will explore obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love as the accused individual fights to keep his family and his marriage together.

Presumed Innocent was most famously adapted for the screen in 1990 by director and writer Alan J. Pakula with Frank Pierson and Turow. Harrison Ford starred alongside Greta Scacchi, Bonnie Bedelia, Brian Dennehy, Raul Julia, and Paul Winfield.

This series marks Kelley’s first collaboration with Apple, while Abrams previously teamed with the streamer for Lisey’s Story and Little Voice. Presumed Innocent hails from Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. While Kelley, Abrams, Stephenson, Thomason, and Matthew Tinker are attached as executive producers, Scott Turow and Rachel Rusch Rich will serve as co-executive producers.

Stay tuned for more on the upcoming series as Presumed Innocent takes shape at Apple TV+.
