A new week brings new horror, and this week’s roundup is highlighted by the return of “Cursed Films” with a new season, Shudder’s exploration of allegedly cursed productions.

What about horror movies, you ask? Four brand new ones are also releasing this week, kicking off with three new genre movies that are already available today, April 5th.

Here’s all the new horror coming April 5-10, 2022!

'The Ice Demon' Brings Forever Winter to Home Video [Trailer]

First up we have The Ice Demon, the directorial debut of Ivan Kapitonov. The Ice Demon brings forever winter to VOD platforms, Blu-ray and DVD beginning today, April 5, 2022.

    In the film…

“Ksyusha barely remembers her father: he went missing when she was a child. Years later, with her mother remarried, Ksyusha experiences a sudden but bittersweet reunion — her father has returned home, but in a coma.

“The family is thrown into disarray by the return of the former master of the house, but his strange reappearance is only the beginning. Soon, terrifying things are happening in the house, and Ksyusha’s mother exhibits bizarre new behaviors.

“Ksyusha begins to suspect that something supernatural, icy, and lifeless has come home with her father … and now she and her stepfather find themselves doing battle with evil incarnate.”

    midnight trailer horror movie

Fear grips the country of South Korea as a serial killer (Squid Game‘s Wi Ha-joon) stalks its residents in Midnight, which is now available On Demand today, April 5th.

In the film, “Kyung-mi (Jim Ki-joo), a deaf woman, is out late with her mother when she stumbles upon a young woman bleeding out in a dark alley. Now a witness to the killer’s brutal crime, Kyung-mi is being ruthlessly hunted down. Will she survive or become his victim?”

Silence kills in Kwon Oh-seung‘s thriller. Watch the Midnight trailer below.

Meagan reviewed Midnight for Bloody Disgusting at Fantasia last year, writing: “Kwon Oh-seung impresses with a propulsive, thrilling debut that makes creative use of sound. Even if the destination feels more like a safer bet, the journey getting there takes surprising and oft intense detours that easily make it one worth taking.”

The final new release for today is the revenge thriller Bull, which Bloody Disgusting’s head critic Meagan Navarro recently raved about in her 4-star review out of Fantasia last year.

Meagan writes in her review of Paul Andrew Williams‘ film, “This revenge-thriller may read like a classic crime tale, but how it plays out ensures it’s one for the horror fan.”

In Bull, Neil Maskell stars as “a vicious mob enforcer seeking revenge on the gang that double-crossed him. Ten years after he was last seen, Bull returns home to methodically track down those who betrayed him and find his beloved son. Bull stalks his former gang, leading up to a savage showdown between his wife and her mob boss father.”

    shudder cursed films season 2

Thursday, April 7th brings with it the return of “Cursed Films” to Shudder, with the brand new Season 2 exploring more real-life tales of allegedly cursed horror movies.

“Cursed Films” explores the facts and legends around iconic films and franchises whose casts and crews have been struck by misfortune and tragedy. The first season examined The Omen, Poltergeist, The Exorcist, The Crow and Twilight Zone: The Movie.

The series reveals the events that haunted these productions through interviews with experts, witnesses and the cast, directors and producers who lived through the real-life events.

    Shudder’s “Cursed Films” Season 2 lineup includes…

    • The Wizard of Oz
    • Rosemary’s Baby
    • The Serpent and the Rainbow
    • Stalker
    • Cannibal Holocaust

Cursed Films II is written and directed by Jay Cheel, who also serves as executive producer alongside Brian Robertson, Jonas Prupas and Courtney Dobbins.

From director Ali Akbar Akbar Kamal, the indie horror movie Godforsaken is the final new horror release for the week, arriving on Digital platforms worldwide this Friday, April 8.

In Godforsaken, being released by Terror Films…

“An indie filmmaker visits his hometown to attend a childhood friend’s funeral. When she seemingly rises from the dead during her wake with mysterious abilities, he and a group of friends begin to investigate and record the town’s experience as they try to get to the truth. Some claim she is God; some claim she is pure evil. They soon learn that not all miracles are holy.”

Chad Tailor (“Paranormal Witness”), Mélie B Rondeau, Katie Fleming, Chris Kelly, Domenic Derose, Nicole Fairbairn, JoAnn Bundock, and Flora Burke star in this one.

Says writer/director Ali Akbar Akbar Kamal, “Growing up in a religious community in the middle east, I always had a fascination with other worldly beings. As a child I would often hear things like “You will burn for eternity if you commit a sin” or “you will go blind if you question God”. All of which struck terror in my heart.”
