Can We Talk About Noah Cyrus’s Style?

She’s donning opulent headpieces. She’s layering contrasting styles. She’s swapping conventional clothes for wearable sculptures. It’s time to pay attention to Noah Cyrus’s experimental take on fashion.

She may be the younger sister to Miley Cyrus — whose iconic style and musical prowess are, obviously, world-renowned — but Noah Cyrus lives in nobody’s shadow. At just 23 years old, the songstress has already established her own inimitable image that grows in scope each day. With long dark locks, bleached brows, and perennially lined eyelids, Cyrus’s experimental take on fashion infuses individuality into each one of her outfits, even if it was plucked straight from the runway.

Case in point: On February 2, she attended a Stella McCartney x Adidas party in Los Angeles wearing an off-the-shoulder, asymmetrical white dress from Stella McCartney’s Spring 2023 collection. The star put her own spin on the pared-down design with a frilly baby bonnet and a pair of sheer opera gloves. As it turns out, this mishmash of aesthetics is nothing new for Cyrus, whose alluringly odd ensembles have been everywhere as of late.

Whether she’s sporting ethereal pastels with hyperfeminine detailing or donning edgy sci-fi-appropriate sets, the Gen Z artist is not afraid to try new things. Consistently playful, at times gritty, and always a little bit boundary-pushing, Noah Cyrus’s fashion moments emit sartorial curiosity. And this was on full display during her recent stay in Paris for haute couture week.

To close out her time in the French capital, she donned an outfit by clothing company Colors that mimicked the look of inflatable stacked rings (as one does). Made of quilted fabric, the swollen tube-like silhouette enveloped Cyrus from head to toe with slits for her glove-adorned hands to poke through. Of course, the “stack-of-tires” comparisons inevitably followed. But most importantly, the look accomplished a mission: to deliver drama.

Each year, chaotic creative inspiration pulses through the streets of couture week. And in this over-the-top environment, Cyrus was seemingly right at home. At Alexandre Vauthier’s January 24 presentation, she layered a billowing black mesh gown atop a metallic bikini. Earlier that same day, her romantic goth vibe persisted in a Stéphane Rolland haute couture dress which featured an oversized chain in lieu of a top.

To attend Maison Margiela’s show on January 22, Cyrus sported an all-black layered look by creative director John Galliano, complete with a gauzy face mask. Days later, sitting in Robert Wun’s front row, she tapped into the peplum trend in a white pleated look from the designer. To top it all off? A baseball cap-shaped chapeau that flowed into a pleated veil.

With each quick change at Paris fashion week, Noah Cyrus curated a mood board of contrasting aesthetics. At Viktor & Rolf, she wore a trompe l’oeil patchwork gown from the brand’s 2019 couture collection. To attend Miss Sohee’s presentation, she perfected elevated eveningwear in a strapless bedazzled floor-length frock from the designer’s Fall 2023 collection. Throughout the days-long event, she emerged in more dramatic designs by Colors, including a trailing green two-piece with tattered seems and a minimalist boots and skirt ensemble that eschewed a top entirely. The range!

Make no mistake, it’s not Cyrus’s access to exclusive fashion collections that make her fashion sense stand out (although she no doubt has that access). We’ve said it before: Not all runway gowns work in real life.  When celebs copy and paste a designer getup, it can easily fall flat or look out of place. But Noah Cryus, who often works with stylist Lyna Lyson, plucks ensembles fresh off the catwalk and reliably makes them her own.

Sometimes described as “siren-esque,” other days compared to Morticia Addams, the youngest Cyrus sibling has a fashion sense that simply cannot be classified. And purposely doing the unexpected has been her dressing M.O. for a while. At the 2021 Grammys, she went viral in a sculptural Schiaparelli gown to celebrate her first nomination. On Instagram, she regularly dons rebellious subversive basics, from deconstructed knits to fishnet slips. If her recent looks are any indication, the singer’s sartorial portfolio will only continue to flourish.

As Cyrus’s style ventures further from the conventional, she emits a sense of self-assuredness. Perhaps unsurprisingly, her debut album The Hardest Part hones in on this very message. As she explained on The Kelly Clarkson Show in September 2022, the project explores themes of “going home, getting older, and finding yourself as an adult.” Through each new assortment of styles she tries, Noah Cyrus is doing just that.
