Headed to the upcoming SXSW 2024, the Nicolas Cage-starring Arcadian has already been acquired for release by RLJE Films, and it’s headed to theaters in just a couple months.
Deadline reports that RLJE Films will first bring Arcadian to theaters on April 12.
It’s coming to Shudder and AMC+ later in the year.
In Arcadian, which was shot in Ireland, “After a catastrophic event depopulates the world, a father and his two sons must survive their dystopian environment while being threatened by mysterious creatures that emerge at night.” Jaeden Martell (IT 2017), Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space) and Sadie Soverall (Fate: The Winx Saga) also star.
Deadline provides a longer plot synopsis: “Arcadian takes place in a near future, where normal life on Earth has been decimated. Paul and his two sons, Thomas and Joseph, have been living a half-life – tranquility by day and torment by night. Every night, after the sun sets, they face the unrelenting attacks of a mysterious and violent evil. One day, when Thomas doesn’t return home before sundown, Paul must leave the safety of their fortified farm to find him. A nightmarish battle ensues that forces the family to execute a desperate plan to survive.”
Ben Brewer (The Trust) directed the film, written by Mike Nilon (Braven). Producers include David Wulf, Braxton Pope, Nicolas Cage, Mike Nilon, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier.
RLJE’s Mark Ward hypes, “Michael Nilon’s script deftly balances between the riveting thrills of a creature feature and the hopeful heart at the core of Paul’s family, played to perfection by Cage, Martel, and Jenkins.”
Arcadian will have its World Premiere at SXSW this coming March, and we expect to learn more about the film in the coming months. Stay tuned for the official trailer and our review.
