2024 Cannes Film Festival Is Almost Here

To celebrate, we’re revisiting last year’s best looks.

It’s that special time of year again when two distinctly creative (and very dramatic) worlds collide. Starting May 14, cinephiles and fashion fanatics will come together to revel in the excitement of one of the season’s most glamorous, star-studded events: the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

This year, there are plenty of buzz-worthy moments on the horizon. For starters, Hollywood favourites like Meryl Streep, Greta Gerwig and Lily Gladstone are set to attend. Other names to look out for: Barry Keoghan, who stars in an upcoming film called Bird; Anya Taylor-Joy, whose new movie Furiosa will be premiering; Sebastian Stan, who is playing Donald Trump in a project about the former president’s life. Intrigue!

Though the annual festival is technically all about what’s happening on-screen, this A-list affair has become just as widely known for its IRL sartorial storytelling. From Angelina Jolie’s sexy nude Versace number in 2009 to Princess Diana’s tulle strapless statement in 1987, the clothes worn at Cannes have always been a topic of conversation. And last year alone, there was much to discuss.

Helen Mirren’s striking blue hair perfectly matched her sky-coloured body-con dress. Sydney Sweeney brought back the exposed bra trend. Rawdah Mohamed made the case for modesty on the red carpet in Robert Wun’s captivating “scorched bride” couture dress. Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what this year brings.

While we anxiously anticipate the fashion-filled festivities, take a look back at the best celebrity ensembles at the 2023 Cannes film festival.
