These are some interesting times in America; nothing can really be ruled out from happening here. If you have a mental filing cabinet, file this one under ‘No way this is actually for real.’
It all went down in Tempe, Ariz., where a Tempe police officer who was recently recognized for his efforts to curb drunk driving has been arrested for alleged DUI.
Tempe police say that in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 31, they were notified by the Arizona Department of Public Safety of a DUI investigation involving an off-duty officer named Zachary Hyde.
Here is where it gets even worse for Officer Hyde. Just over a month ago, Officer Hyde was among two Tempe officers who received the “Hero Award” at the 35th Annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) law enforcement recognition banquet.
This continues to spiral even more because the Tempe Police Department curated a whole social media post about Hyde and his DUI crackdown efforts.
Not a good look for anyone, let alone a police officer whose specialty is cracking down on drunk driving. The Tempe Police Department issued the following statement on the matter at handcuffs:
“Any time a criminal investigation is brought to our attention about one of our officers, we take the matter very seriously,” the department said in an emailed news release.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed that a trooper arrested Hyde during a DUI investigation, but did not elaborate on the case.
Tempe Police say Officer Hyde was immediately placed on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation.
As Post Malone and Morgan Wallen say:
“Why’d you throw them stones if you had a wild hair of your own or two? / Livin’ in your big glass house with a view / I thought you knew.”
