This has to be one of the oddest, and nastiest, reasons to not do what your coach says.
When the Packers hosted the Indianapolis Colts, you may have missed one of the most unique plays of the season so far. On 3rd and 10, Packers Quarterback Malik Willis got the shotgun snap and looked as if he had no interest in passing the ball, which was odd considering the long distance to gain.
Willis ran the ball, picked up four yards and the Packers punted.
When the offense came to the sideline, Head Coach Matt LaFleur said he asked his quarterback why he didn’t throw the ball. Willis then informed the coach that when he caught the snap, it was covered in vomit.
Sure enough, right before the snap, Packers center Josh Myers lost his lunch directly on the football.
Despite the Packers holding on for the 16-10 win, the play was questioned by the media and the head coach didn’t hold back.
Getting sick is nothing new in the NFL, but that may have been the first time that someone getting queasy while playing may have cost his team a first down.
USA Today’s Packers beat reporter asked Myers about the incident.
“I felt like I had something in my throat. I don’t know if it’s just from the electrolyte drinks that we drink and stuff, but something was caught in my throat when I was breathing that hard,” Myers told him. “I bent over and, I just, I don’t know. I threw up.”
Despite the nastiness of that play, the NFL is off to a great start this year when it comes to eye balls. The early season returns are massive as Week One of the NFL season saw an average of 21 million people watching the games across all platforms, the highest number for a Week One in the history of the NFL. Thankfully this was the only case of someone getting sick.
