General Hospital fans were blindsided by the news in August that Kelly Monaco was let go from the soap opera after 21 years of playing Sam McCall. The actress was also reportedly shocked by the decision.
It came clear earlier this week that Sam McCall’s death was on the horizon. The character died on the Wednesday, October 30, episode, but that wasn’t the last time fans would see Kelly Monaco. She appeared as Sam’s corpse for a few emotional goodbye scenes.

But what took viewers by surprise was Steve Burton’s touching final scenes as Jason said goodbye to his former love. Many fans were hoping ‘JaSam’ would reunite after the actor returned to the soap earlier this year. However, that never happened and now it is too late.
Some fans were underwhelmed by Steve Burton’s initial reaction to Kelly Monaco’s unexpected departure. The most devoted Kelly Monaco fans blamed him and others for not standing up for the actress. However, the actor put any backstage drama aside and gave one of his best performances during Jason’s goodbye scenes with Sam.

Jason and Sam’s relationship began almost as soon as Kelly Monaco joined the soap back in 2003. They broke up and reunited several times over the years.
