Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell shocked the world when they broke up. From the outside fans saw them being endgame and getting engaged soon. Instead, they broke up while on a trip together. He took it upon himself and posted their split on Instagram just two to three hours after the actual split happened. Of course, misinformation was spreading on the internet like wildfire. Now, she is finally breaking her silence and speaking out about what really happened between them. Keep reading to hear her side of the story.
Rachael Kirkconnell Breaks Silence On Breakup With Matt James
Rachael Kirkconnell and Matt James met on The Bachelor. They went through a lot together from her controversial photos in college that led to their first split while the show was still airing. Through it all they have managed to work through their problems, until now. After two weeks of silence, Rachael agreed to go on the Call Her Daddy podcast and spill the tea about what really happened that led to their final breakup.
She admits that at times she was somewhat insecure and she did find herself apologizing more than she maybe should have. Rachael even admits that throughout their relationship there were times she compromised her beliefs. She said it wasn’t that he was in charge of their relationship but overall she let him lead the way and call the shots. Even going to a wedding together was like pulling teeth for her to get him to go with her.
According to Rachael, Matt seemed to expect her to take accountability for some of the issues they would go through together.
The rumors were flying that Rachael ended the relationship and in fact, it was actually Matt who broke it off. It all went down while they were out of the country. She was upset over picking a bad place to eat and he couldn’t understand why.
Everything Went Downhill From There
When Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell got back to their hotel following that dinner, they spoke and he still didn’t understand why she was so upset. He seemed to think it was a red flag. Matt thought that if she reacted that way to something so minor how would she react to bigger things that were certain to happen in their lives?
They went to bed and got up. They began talking again and they were somewhat annoyed with each other. It all led to Matt saying he didn’t see her as his person. He didn’t really see her as his wife. He knew that after being together for four years he should be ready to propose and he wasn’t.
Rachael of course told him well maybe you shouldn’t be with me then and so he broke things off. Matt ended their four-year relationship.
She felt blindsided and like it was all out of the blue. At the airport, she had just gotten on her plane for a twelve-hour flight home alone. Matt knew her cell phone would not work on planes for some reason. Just before take off her friends texted her and told her about Matt’s Instagram post announcing their split.
For twelve hours there was nothing she could do and she had no idea what was being said about her and their now-ended relationship.
Rachael Reveals If They Could Get Back Together
Rachael Kirkconnell was asked if she could see a reconciliation happening. She said there was no chance. After hearing him say he could not see her as his wife at all she knows she could not take him back. While Matt admits he could have handled things better as far as the internet post, she said it still showed her who he was for even doing it in the first place. Rachael felt very disrespected by Matt James.
Now, she just wants to move forward. She still loves him and misses him but she knows she will be okay. Alex encouraged her to move forward and know that she will find someone better who will not disrespect her. She told her that six months from now she would see that it was for the best.
For now, Rachael feels good about getting the truth out there. She still believes she is a good guy.
