On Wednesday evening, the Jonas Brothers posted a letter to social media that gave some fans a momentary sense of panic.
“To Our Incredible Fans,” the note began. “As a family, we have been reflecting a lot lately… It’s been 20 years since we started this journey together.”
“Together, we have celebrated wins, made mistakes, overcome obstacles, and grieved losses,” the brothers continued. “Put simply: we’ve all grown up together. It’s seemingly impossible to put our appreciation into words. None of this would have been possible without you. You’ve shown up for us. Rooted for us. Encouraged us. And inspired us.”
These first few lines were enough to evoke internet-wide fears that the band was breaking up, with one fan on Facebook writing, “I was traumatized for a moment thinking y’all were breaking up again!!!!” and another on X/Twitter requesting that the group “start posting announcements with an anti-trigger warning: ‘not a break up announcement.’”
Soon, however, the letter revealed that the announcement was anticipatory, despite the introduction’s nostalgic overtones. “2025 will be a year of music: New Jonas Brothers music. Solo music. A live concert album. And a soundtrack. Nick returns to Broadway this spring for The Last Five Years,” the Jonas Brothers shared. “And we are nearly wrapped on our holiday movie that we can’t wait for you to see this fall. Expect a lot more announcements over the coming days and weeks. From the bottom of our hearts: thank you! Here’s to the next 20 years, and here’s to doing it together. The best is yet to come.”
A second split (the brothers disbanded in 2013) would have certainly been unexpected, as the Jonas Brothers rang in 2025 by performing a medley of tracks during Dick Clark’s New Year‘s Rockin’ Eve. Prior to their set, the Jonas Brothers also teased upcoming projects when being interviewed by Ryan Seacrest. Kevin shared that they’ll be going on tour, while Joe hinted that their NYE performance will include “a lot of songs that you’ll hear on the next tour. Kind of a sneak peek of what’s coming.”
As the Jonas Brothers, who formed in 2005, prep for their 20th anniversary, the homepage of the band’s website currently displays a countdown ticker that hints at big news possibly arriving on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
