‘Jason Universe’ Slashes into SDCC With Exclusive First Looks, Savini Jason Toy & More!

The “Jason Universe,” a relaunch of the Jason Voorhees character from the rights holders, has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start so far this year, with a host of weird announcements making most horror fans wonder what the hell is even going on here. It’s been called a “multi-platform expansion,” with everything from NECA toys to an Angry Orchard commercial being promised thus far, and a brand new Jason design headed to Halloween Horror Nights this year.

Where else is this weird new Jason headed? To San Diego Comic-Con this month!

IGN has exclusively announced this afternoon that the “Jason Universe” initiative will host its own San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday, July 25, and it’s being presented as a “celebration of Friday the 13th‘s 45th anniversary that’s filled with exclusive first looks, multiple standout giveaways, and a deep dive into Jason’s blood-soaked history and what’s lurking ahead.”

In other words, if you’re wondering what else this new “Jason Universe” is planning in the coming months, you’ll probably want to pay attention to this particular SDCC panel. Among other things, it’ll feature a first look at “Sweet Revenge,” the aforementioned Angry Orchard commercial that’s being directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, Silent Night, Deadly Night).

A message from the set of Peacock and A24’s “Crystal Lake” is also being promised, with the panelists including Mike P. Nelson, Horror, Inc. President Robert Barsamian, VP Robbie Barsamian, and CMO Sheri Conn, as well as Atomic Monster EVP of Film Judson Scott.

The “Jason Universe” panel, taking place in Room 5AB from 5:30pm – 6:30pm, will also include a number of giveaways exclusively available for all fans who attend the panel, including:

    • A first look and fan giveaway of Spirit Halloween’s newest Jason mask, crafted in celebration of his 45th anniversary and his frightening new design.
    • Exclusive 45th anniversary hats, only available by attending the panel.
    • Also crafted exclusively for those attending the panel, a limited-edition 18″x12″ Mondo lithograph inspired by the upcoming Sweet Revenge vignette will be distributed. Designed by panel moderator and Mondo Senior Creative Director Peter Santa-Maria (a.k.a. AttackPeter).
    • Jason fans can also visit NECA’s SDCC booth (#3545) to view the unveiling of their new 7″ Scale – Ultimate Savini Jason action figure, which will be the first collectible based on the fan-favorite 2017 video game Friday the 13th: The Game.

“This can’t-miss panel moderated by Mondo senior creative director Peter Santa-Maria (a.k.a. AttackPeter) will dive deep into Jason’s blood-soaked history and what’s lurking ahead.”
