Battle Relentless Hordes in Gothic Reverse Bullet Hell Title ‘Midnight Horde’ [Trailer]

Touted as Vampire Survivors meets parkour, Source of Madness developer Carry Castle’s gothic reverse bullet hell title Midnight Horde received a new trailer at The MIX Fall Showcase, along with an update demo ahead of the game’s release on Steam next year.

The trailer showcases new content, including new environments, and several new bosses, while the demo has received a new resource system and a sliding mechanic, amongst other updates.

“Midnight Horde is my personal challenge to make the most objectively fun and flow state focused game I can make as a solo developer,” says Carry Castle developer Per Fornander. “It blends everything I love: gothic vibes, roguelite progression, and fast, skill-based movement, into an experience that’s both intense and expressive.”

Midnight Horde is a gothic horror action roguelite that combines the traditional bullet hell formula with intense, vertical parkour mechanics. Set in a medieval European city during the early 1900s, players must scale towering castles, leap across rooftops, and dive into hordes of enemies. With every attempt, you’ll grow stronger and unlock new abilities as you push back against the darkness that threatens to consume everything.

You’ll need to utilize mechanics like dashing, wall-climbing, and rooftop-jumping to maneuver through the overwhelming odds. At the same time, you’ll take on quests to uncover and unlock powerful new classes and abilities. Complete quests that span across multiple playthroughs, rewarding you with new ways to approach the game’s challenges.

However, victory isn’t achieved through skill alone, as strategy plays a pivotal role. This is where the game’s base-building mechanic comes into play. Discover and construct unique buildings throughout the city, each offering powerful perks, defenses, and even synergies that can turn the battle in your favor. Every map can be fortified and improved upon, with upgrades that strengthen your hold against the hordes of the night. Use these to adapt each run to your playstyle, maximizing your defenses and building your way toward triumph.
