Giving Thanks for My TV Fanatic Family

Giving Thanks for My TV Fanatic Family

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Whether you’re in the US or around the world, today is a day to give thanks — and our time together is high on my list.

As we head into the holiday weekend and toward the end of my first year as owner of TV Fanatic, I’ve been thinking a lot about what this community means to me.

Without my amazing team of writers and you — the readers who give us the fuel to keep going — TV Fanatic would have lost the fight long ago. (And because it’s 2025 and we’re all living in the Twilight Zone, I even made a little AI video of myself to toast the holiday…)

After writing for TV Fanatic for 14 years and acting as managing editor for ten, I dreamed of one day taking ownership. That dream came true in February of this year, when the papers were signed and my world aligned.

The phrase “TV fanatic” conjures someone who not only gobbles up what networks and studios have to offer, but someone who takes it seriously as an art form and as a pastime.

I was the little girl with her face pressed to the screen when my mom wasn’t looking, pretending she had no idea I was still awake.

My childhood was spent “playing” Charlie’s Angels, The Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman, and The Land of the Lost, using nature itself as everything from time portals to enemies to destroy. I was the kid running to the store to buy records (?!) of the S.W.A.T. and Rockford Files theme songs.

Yes, I still have them somewhere.

TV has been my north star for as long as I can remember, so pivoting mid-career to make it my life’s work? Extraordinary doesn’t even begin to cover it.

It’s not easy. It consumes you. When your entertainment is also your work, the lines blur. But I’ve never been more passionate, more obsessed, or more productive.

And I’m not doing this alone. I somehow managed to surround myself with people who care about TV Fanatic as fiercely as I do, and that’s a blessing I don’t take lightly.

The nature of this business means change is constant. We’re always onboarding new writers and saying goodbye to others.

Yet Whitney Evans was one of my very first recruits back in 2014. She has brought every incarnation of the Power universe alive for us and has become a walking encyclopedia of 9-1-1. One of her many talents is knowing a character almost as well as the writers who created them.

Jack Ori joined us in 2015 and quickly became our resident expert on the Blue Bloods universe, Law & Order: SVU, and Days of Our Lives. He loves exploring mental health storylines and diving into how characters in crisis make it through the day.

Jasmine Blu, now our managing editor, has been with TV Fanatic since 2016. I remember her hesitation when she first started sharing her thoughts — she’s shy by nature, like me — but once she found her stride, she became a force.

TV Fanatic is as much her brand as it is mine. Her passionate, comforting voice helps unite readers who need a soft place to land in the often harsh world of criticism.

We also have readers who’ve been with us so long that I consider them family.

Sweet Amy lives up to her name — introspective, kind, and always taking a moment to appreciate a thoughtful comment or a job well done.

The Ultimate Fangirl’s devotion to NCIS: LA‘s Hetty is unmatched. Whenever I hear “an old character is returning,” she’s the first person who comes to mind. That’s how much I want her to have closure.

TBookfan has insight sharp enough that I sometimes wish they’d throw their hat in the ring and join us on the writing side.

And Michael… oh, Michael. He brings everything back to ratings, and in his world, not a single show has achieved ratings magic since The Walking Dead and Yellowstone.

Broadcast network shows? Fuhgeddaboudit. In Michael’s mind, half of them should be marched right off a cliff — and if a show gets too “woke,” well, look out. (We love him anyway.)

Every life that touches TV Fanatic, whether briefly or for the long haul, is seen. It matters.

We talk a lot about found family in the TV world. This is mine. You are mine. And I’m endlessly grateful to share something I hold so dear with so many of you.

The happiest Thanksgiving to you all — and thank you for letting me live my dream every single day.
