The Reiner family is facing the unimagineable.
Director Rob Reiner and his wife, producer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood home, apparently of stab wounds, a source close to the family confirmed to NBC News Dec. 14.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” their loved ones said in a statement to Variety. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Rob, known for directing films The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, A Few Good Men and This Is Spinal Tap, was 78. Michele, who met Rob during the production of When Harry Met Sally, was 68.
The filmmakers, who tied the knot in 1989, are parents to Jake Reiner, Nick Reiner and Romy Reiner. Rob also shared a daughter, Tracy Reiner, with late director Penny Marshall, whom he was married to from 1971 to 1981.
