Hilary Duff Performs ‘What Dreams Are Made of’ for First Time Ever

Have you ever seen such a beautiful night? During her tour launch in London, a.k.a. her first concert since 2015, Hilary Duff performed “What Dreams Are Made of” for the first time ever.

Held at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Duff’s 17-song set list contained gems from her catalog (“Wake Up,” “Come Clean”), plus tracks off her upcoming album Luck …or Something. She closed with a triumphant “What Dreams Are Made of,” from 2003’s The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

In a recent interview with Therapuss, Duff told Jake Shane that she doesn’t even remember recording the Disney song, since she was only 14 at the time. “But I will say, now I love it,” she said. “And when I was filming the movie, I loved it. It was just a weird time, and it wasn’t technically my song. It was a Lizzie McGuire song.”

She added, “When I sing it now, I feel a lot of joy. I just think there was such a separation back then of me and my music and Lizzie McGuire. I didn’t really get to perform that song live, because I didn’t own it. But if I would ever tour again, I think maybe I would be allowed to manage to sing that song somehow….some way. Maybe, maybe. Hypothetically.”

Duff will release Luck …or Something, her first album in over a decade, on Feb. 20 via Atlantic. She co-produced it with her husband, musician Matthew Koma, and Brian Phillips. She’s released two singles from the album so far: “Mature” and “Roommates.” She’ll continue her Small Rooms, Big Nerves Tour in Toronto on Jan. 24, before heading to the States for more shows (including a Las Vegas residency).

“I am often asked how I still have my head on straight after growing up in this industry,” Duff said, upon announcing Luck …or Something. “The album title is my way of answering that question. It’s luck, but there’s also a lot of weight in the ‘…or something’. Many of the things I’ve been through along the way are held there, and I feel like ultimately that’s what’s shaped me.”
