Stephen Colbert Doesn’t Hold Back Trashing Trump Over Iran

Stephen Colbert’s time on The Late Show is soon coming to an end. However, he’s still managed to take a few headlines with his final episodes. Recently, Colbert shared a few choice words for President Donald Trump during a recent broadcast.

A Recent Episode Of The Late Show Saw Stephen Colbert Use President Trump’s Words Against Him

Colbert initially joined The Late Show around 2015, taking over for David Letterman. However, CBS recently announced that the show was coming to an end as the network was retiring the series’ format.

Colbert’s final show is expected to air on May 21, 2026. Since then, however, he’s continued to host the show, weighing in on current events.

Recently, Colbert discussed the ongoing conflict in Iran. This followed President Donald Trump holding an Oval Office news conference in Washington, D.C., where he discussed the “worst-case scenario” in the war following the assassination of Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

At the time, Trump admitted his fear that someone would take over who would be “as bad” as their predecessor. He warned, “That could happen. That would probably be the worst. You go through this and then in five years you realize you put somebody in who was no better.”

Colbert Also Added A Joke About Applications In The Current Job Market

For his part, Colbert agreed with the sentiment, though he alluded to this being a criticism levied against Trump himself. As he noted, the president’s answer “was not the best.” He continued, “Yeah, yeah. That could happen,” as the studio audience broke out into applause.

Colbert then made his point clear, sharing, “It could happen. Because sometimes you get a really bad guy out of office, and then, like four years later, you get the same guy back, and he’s somehow worse.”

For his part, Trump also shared that he was unsure of just who should take over Iran. Speaking with reporters, he shared, “We had some in mind from that group that is dead. And now we have another group that may be dead also, based on reports.” Noting that a “third wave” could be on its way, Trump shared that, soon, the United States was “not gonna know anybody.”

Colbert once again used the president’s comments against him. Repeating the sentiment that “they” will soon not “know anybody,” he joked, “They’re gonna have to post the job on Indeed.” He then teased the qualifications asked for such a job, listing, “Charismatic, proficient in Excel, not dead, a plus.”
