Dusty Black has recently released his self-titled EP, and the project marks the culmination of a childhood dream that had long been deferred.
Who Is Dusty Black?
Dusty Black comes from a musical pedigree, but he’s a new artist to most country fans. Born in Texas and raised in Memphis, Tenn., Black’s deep connection to country music comes from his family’s legacy.
His grandfather, Floyd Black “Junior,” played banjo and guitar in Johnny Cash’s band, and his father, Allen Black, also helped shape his musical sensibilities with his country ballads.
Black deferred his own musical passions to pursue a very successful career in business, but his father’s passing inspired him to dust off his early dreams and pursue a country career of his own.
Black is currently signed to Quartz Hill Music Group and Stone Country Records, which released his six-song EP, Dusty Black, on Feb. 27, 2026.
The project has already earned more than a million streams online, and Black’s overall catalog has earned 18 million streams.
Dusty Black’s Self-Titled EP, Track by Track
Black’s new EP features a mix of rock-tinged heartland anthems, love songs and songs about family, all brought together by his soulful vocal stylings.
Mickey Jack Cones (Trace Adkins, Joe Nichols, Dustin Lynch and more) produced the EP.
Find a track-by-track analysis of the project below:
1. “Don’t That Sound Like Her,” (Houston Phillips, Kyle Schlienger, Kyler Weston)
The EP’s focus track is a brotherly warning to a heartbreaker’s new man from the guy who’s seen this whole story play out once before.
The sweet romance of the track’s opening verses explodes into the pain of the full-throttle chorus, revealing the hell and the hurt that this woman’s taillights have left behind.
2. “Goodbye Drives Me Crazy,” (Josh Mirenda, Gary Garris, Houston Phillips)
Dedicated to anyone whose job requires time on the road, this heartrending track captures the anguish of having to say goodbye to someone you love, and the promise that you’ll be home soon.
3. “Curveball,” (Jordan Walker, Chris DuBois, Lynn Hutton)
A heartfelt tribute to a man who coaches his son not only in baseball, but in life.
The song touchingly describes many life lessons learned from Dad, though perhaps the most important of those is how to hit a curveball — literally and figuratively.
4. “Dust Off of Me,” (Connie Harrington, Houston Phillips, Heath Sanders, Josh Dunne)
A universally relatable song that speaks to anyone falling in love again after a long-ago heartbreak.
The soulful, unhurried track unfolds the story of a wounded man who needs to take things slow — but taking it slow doesn’t mean he loves his new lady any less.
5. “In That Case,” (Heath Sanders, Chris Stevens, Jordan Walker)
A rockin’ good time about a guy making the best of a bad situation.
His girl may have split, but she can’t kill his buzz if he heads to the fridge and pops open one of the 24 cold beers “In That Case.”
6. “I Don’t Wanna Be Right,” (Nate Kenyon, Matt Gorman, Cooper Van Bascom)
A defiant rural anthem that amps up the fight for family-owned farms while celebrating many of the things that make country life unique — from putting on camo to hanging up a buck rack.
The high-octane track stokes the fires of modern country-rock around Black’s commanding, no-holds-barred vocal.
