Despina Mirou Places 28th Worldwide in Johnny Depp’s “The People’s Artist” Global Competition

Greek-American actress, stand-up comedian, painter, and poet Despina Mirou continues building international momentum after placing 28th worldwide in Johnny Depp’s highly publicized global art competition, “The People’s Artist.”

Presented in collaboration with The Art of Elysium and Colossal Impact, the competition attracted thousands of artists from around the world, giving creatives the opportunity to showcase their work while competing for international recognition, a feature in Artforum magazine, a Los Angeles exhibition opportunity, and a $25,000 grand prize.

Through public voting, Mirou emerged as one of the competition’s standout international contenders, further solidifying her reputation as a uniquely multi-dimensional performer whose career spans comedy, visual art, acting, poetry, and celebrity transformation.

As part of her submissions, Mirou showcased selections from her comedy impersonation work, including performances inspired by Johnny Depp both as himself and as the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow. Her live performances have also featured portrayals of iconic personalities including Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Bob Marley, Sophia Loren, Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara, Eminem, Elton John, and many others.

Alongside her comedy work, Mirou also submitted pieces from her growing portrait art collection. Her paintings often focus on larger-than-life cultural figures whose influence shaped entertainment, music, film, and innovation. Among the personalities featured in her work are Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Quincy Jones, Bob Marley, Spike Lee, and Nikola Tesla.

Mirou’s artistic relationship to Johnny Depp extends beyond the competition itself. During her years performing stand-up comedy at Hollywood’s legendary Viper Room — the iconic venue once owned by Depp — she became recognized for her immersive celebrity impersonations and theatrical stage presence, helping establish her growing cult following within entertainment circles.

Known for blending humor, emotional storytelling, visual art, and transformative performance into a singular creative identity, Despina Mirou continues carving out a distinctive lane in the entertainment world as one of the most unconventional and artistically fearless Greek-American performers working today.
