[EXCLUSIVE] Why Kip Moore Thinks Nashville Has a Major Problem

Kip Moore has never been one to shy away from speaking his truth. If he’s feeling something or going through something, it will almost certainly come through in both his music and his interviews.

I love chatting with Moore because he’s smart, witty and always holds his own. Recently, on Taste of Country Nights, he and I talked about the current state of country music in Nashville.

“This town is so ridiculous,” the “Last Shot” singer says. “There’ll be a new shiny toy that comes through and everyone will be like, ‘Ah, this is the greatest thing ever.’ Then that gets old in a year.”

“Then it’s like, ‘Well, here’s the new shiny thing,’ and you forget all about that one,” he continues. “God help you if you’re that new shiny toy that becomes damaged goods.”

Speaking about the politics of the Nashville music industry, Moore says, “It’s such a copycat, follow-the-leader town a lot of times. People won’t have the backbone to say, ‘Nah, this person’s got it. We just messed up here. We need to get this back.'”

He explains that instead of realizing they made a mistake, a lot of record labels will just toss that “damaged” artist aside and find the next best thing, and he says that is what makes Nashville a “copycat” town.

What Record Labels Has Kip Moore Been Signed To?

Throughout his career in country music, he has been signed to two record labels:

    • MCA Nashville (2008 – 2024): Where he spent over 15 years with this label, releasing five studio albums, including his debut Up All Night and Damn Love.
    • Virgin Music Group (2024 – current): Where he has spent the last couple of years and released two records, Solitary Tracks and Reason to Believe.
