Kane Brown Says He Doesn’t Really Have Friends in Country Music

Kane Brown Says He Doesn’t Really Have Friends in Country Music

Kane Brown says while he’s got plenty of friendly acquaintances, he doesn’t have any true friends in the country music industry — and that’s something he’d like to change.

“I feel like I have more athlete friends than I do musician friends,” the singer admits on a late-June episode of The Pivot podcast. “I feel alone in the music world.”

“I’ve always been a loner, so I’m used to it,” Brown continues. Still, he wishes he had best friends in the country music industry.

Why Doesn’t Kane Brown Have Friends in Country Music?

Brown says that there are country stars who will shoot him a text now and again, or pal around with him at industry events. “Morgan [Wallen] probably texts me the most. Shaboozey, Chris Young. If I hit [Jason] Aldean up, Aldean’s been my guy,” he says.

He’s even worked with some of those artists, like when he collaborated with Chris Young on “Famous Friends,” and with Lauren Alaina (who was once his middle school classmate) on “What Ifs.”

But those acquaintanceships stop short of true, deep friendship, Brown continues.

“There’s other artists I could text, but [there’s a] difference from…texting somebody and being boys with somebody,” he says. “Because they’re the only people I can really relate to, you know what I’m saying? When you don’t have somebody you can talk to about that, and have a [brotherhood] over it, I don’t know if I could really say that we’re friends.”

Brown says that many country stars find their core group of artist friends when they go on tour with them, but for one reason or another, that method hasn’t worked for him.

He also his wife Katelyn suggested he be the one to reach out and make plans, but there’s one big problem with that.

“I’m socially awkward,” he admits. “My wife says I’m intimidating. She’s like…’Maybe you need to reach out to them.’ And I’m like, I am not that guy. I don’t know. I’m sensitive.”

During his The Pivot Podcast interview, Brown put out an open call to any fellow country artists that might be listening. “If anyone’s watching this,” he said.

“For me, I want a friend in the industry that we can just chill. Come over, hit the golf sim, have a few beers, talk crap,” Brown continues.

Kane Brown has built himself quite the career: He’s come a long way since 2015, when he released his first single, “Used to Love You Sober.” Prior to that, Brown was covering other country stars’ songs for social media. Now, he is a star, with nine No. 1 hits under his belt, including a special duet with his wife Katelyn. There’s no ceiling to this Tennessee boy’s success!
