The Today Show is prepared for Savannah Guthrie to leave at a moment’s notice. Her beloved mother has been missing since late January. There could be a shocking break in the case at any time. Her recent four-day absence worried fans. Hoda Kotb filled in for her former co-anchor in the weeks after Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. But how does Savannah Guthrie really feel about her former co-host replacing her?
Savannah Guthrie’s Recent Absence Explained
Neither the FBI nor Savannah Guthrie knows where her mother is. The country’s top cops were brought in to investigate the shocking disappearance after the local police in Tucson, Arizona, came up empty. There have been very few clues in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. It’s believed that the 84-year-old was taken from her home in the middle of the night on February 1, 2026.

A recent note sent to TMZ claimed knowledge of the person or persons responsible and hinted that Nancy Guthrie is dead. The ongoing situation reportedly has the Today Show ready to replace Savannah Guthrie at any moment if she needs to take another break from the morning news program.
But her recent four-day absence had nothing to do with her mother. Several Today Show hosts have taken time off recently to enjoy the summer. However, Savannah Guthrie took a brief break and spent most of it catching up on the World Cup.

Savannah Guthrie Reacts To Hoda Kotb Replacing Her On Today
Following her mother’s disappearance, Savannah Guthrie took two months off. Hoda Kotb came back to the Today Show to fill in for her former co-anchor. The two co-hosted the morning program’s first two hours for seven years until Hoda Kotb left in 2025 to spend more time with her children.
Savannah Guthrie was initially thankful for her former co-worker’s help. However, she reportedly doesn’t think Hoda Kotb’s continued presence on the Today Show is the right move, Rob Shuter reported on his Naughty But Nice Substack.
“Hoda left on her own terms, and everyone respects that. But the show isn’t looking backward. Savannah wants viewers to become just as comfortable with Sheinelle, Laura, and other anchors alongside Craig,” an insider spilled.

“Hoda had an extraordinary connection with the audience, but this is about building the next generation of Today,” the insider added.
The source also said that the relationship between the former co-anchors wasn’t as friendly as viewers thought. “People mistook great television for a deep personal relationship. They have very different styles, and everyone at the show knew that.”
Sheinelle Jones and Laura Jarrett filled in during Savannah Guthrie’s recent absence. It seems NBC is abiding by her wishes to keep Hoda Kotb off the show. Share your reaction in the comments.
