Kenny Chesney Cleared in Lawsuit Over Impersonator Scam

Kenny Chesney has been cleared of liability in a lawsuit brought by a woman who said she was scammed by someone impersonating the country star.

A California appeals court has upheld a lower court’s decision to dismiss all claims against Chesney, ruling that the singer did not have a legal duty to warn or protect the woman from the impersonator’s scam.

The lawsuit was filed by Linson, who argued that Chesney should have warned or protected her after she was allegedly targeted by someone pretending to be him.

    The appeals court disagreed.

Court Rules in Kenny Chesney’s Favor

The trial court previously dismissed Chesney from the lawsuit after finding that he did not owe Linson a legal duty to warn her about or protect her from the impersonator.

Linson appealed that decision, arguing the lower court had erred. The appeals court has now affirmed the dismissal.

“The trial court sustained without leave to amend Chesney’s demurrer as to all of Linson’s causes of action against Chesney, and dismissed him from the lawsuit,” the ruling states.

Linson appeals, arguing the trial court erred in finding Chesney did not owe her a duty to warn or protect her against the impersonator’s scam. We conclude the court correctly found Chesney owed Linson no such duty.

The court also found that Linson had not otherwise shown that the trial court erred in dismissing her claims against Chesney.

“Because Linson has not otherwise shown the court erred in dismissing any of her claims against Chesney, we affirm,” the ruling concludes.

The appeals court’s decision upholds Chesney’s dismissal from the lawsuit, meaning the claims against the country star will not proceed.
