Jenna Bush Hager is known for her work on Today, but many already knew her through her presidential family. In fact, she took advantage of this during a recent episode of the show, calling her father right on the air. As noted during the moment, this wasn’t the first time Jenna called up her father during a television appearance.
Jenna Bush Hager & Sheinelle Jones Gave A Follow-Up Of Sorts To A Resurfaced Clip On Today
Jenna entered the public eye at a young age, as she and her twin sister, Barbara, are the daughters of George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States. Through him, they are also the granddaughters of the 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush.
However, Jenna herself has also established herself in the world of broadcast journalism, working on Today. Notably, she hosts the program’s fourth hour, currently alongside Sheinelle Jones.

Jenna has often put her family’s presidential background to good use on Today. Back in April, the show featured interviews she conducted with her father, alongside other living former presidents, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton.
Recently, Jenna called her father on live television during her hosting duties alongside Sheinelle Jones. The call was prompted by a resurfaced clip on social media, in which Jenna cold-called her father while on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2007, back when he was still president.
During the recent episode of Today, Jenna announced, “You’re on TV, Dad.” He joked, “I’ve been trying to avoid that.” Jenna and Sheinelle then reminisced about the time father and daughter talked back on Ellen DeGeneres’ show.
The Former President Also Discussed A Recent Project During The Appearance
Despite working alongside his daughter, Sheinelle has never met Jenna’s father. The former president mused, “I’d like to shake her hand, but it’s a little difficult.” He then learned that they had a bit of a connection: his administration appointed Sheinelle’s father, U.S. District Court Judge C. Darnell Jones II, back in 2008.
A surprised Bush shared, “You got to be kidding me. He had to be a good man.” He then shared a special request for his daughter.

Noting his daughter’s “Read with Jenna” book club, Bush asked, “I’m glad you called because I don’t know if you know this or not, but I’ve got a book coming out next March. ’The Call of Freedom’s’ the name of it, and as a result of taking this call, I’m hopeful I can convince you to help me sell the book.”
As noted by Today, the book is scheduled to be published in March 2027. It will feature his paintings of political prisoners around the world.
Jenna then asked her father if he would like to appear on the show to promote his book, but he seemed doubtful. When it was pointed out that this would allow him to meet Sheinelle in person, he had another idea, but made a slight flub. He shared, “I’d like to at some point in time. But why don’t you and Michelle come down…” Jenna corrected him, “Sheinelle, not Michelle!” As the conversation came to an end, Jenna and Sheinelle mused about taking a road trip to Texas to meet the former’s family.
