Al Roker and Carson Daly have been co-workers for years on Today. Naturally, the two have often interacted on the show, sharing jokes and even helping each other. However, after a mishap on the air, Daly’s attempt at helping his co-star took an awkward turn, as Roker himself soon noted.
Al Roker Recently Had Issues With His Microphone During A Recent Episode Of Today
Daly joined Today back in 2013. Over the years, he has held multiple roles on the show, including hosting the daily “PopStart” celebrity news segment. Roker had joined the show in 1996, prominently becoming the morning program’s weather anchor.
The two have naturally worked together for years and have interacted constantly. They frequently share banter and jokes with each other live on the show. They have also both been involved with special broadcasts of the show, including Today‘s recent trip to Ireland.
During the past October 19 episode of the show, Roker was struggling with his microphone. At the time, Guthrie had just introduced him to share his weather segment.
Some of the other co-anchors offered pieces of advice to help get things going. Sheinelle Jones, who was subbing for Craig Melvin at the time, shared, “Just click it. Just push on.” Guthrie suggested, “Just talk really loud.”
It was at this point that Carson Daly got up to help, even offering his own microphone. At one point, he tightly hugged Roker so his voice could be heard on his own device.
This Isn’t The First Time This Week Roker Had A Sense Of Humor About Dealing With His Co-Stars
Roker took the moment with good humor, saying, “Oh, baby!” After Carson returned to his seat, Roker mused, “That was…That was awkward.”
Fortunately, Roker’s microphone was soon fixed. He shared, “We did get a little too close, as you can say. The luck of the Irish,” in reference to the show recently broadcasting from Ireland.
The morning show had filmed a full four-hour live broadcast in Ireland on Friday, October 16, 2026. All seven main hosts, including both Roker and Daly, travelled to the European country for the special. The special broadcast had been sponsored by Tourism Ireland.
Over the years, Roker has been known for poking fun at himself and his co-hosts over the years. Recently, he also recently shared a funny moment between him and Sheinelle Jones at the studio.
Dropping his iconic eyewear, he squinted for the camera as Sheinelle Jones showed off a pair of glasses. At the time, he wrote, “Did anybody see my glasses?”
