MLB The Show 22 revealed its cover athlete for the latest entry in the video game series, and perhaps unsurprisingly, the athlete was Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani. This update comes alongside news of its release date and platforms. MLB The Show 22 is coming out on April 5 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Ohtani became well-known when he arrived from Japan to play in the MLB in 2018, but he became a phenomenon in 2021, where he not only became an All-Star for the first time, but won the American League MVP in a unanimous decision. Ohtani’s two-way status (his ability to both pitch and hit extremely well) was also a focus on MLB The Show 21‘s Road to the Show Mode, which allowed players to explore being a two-way player for the first time.

Alongside the news of Ohtani gracing the cover, Sony San Diego also announced that MLB The Show 22 would be releasing on Nintendo Switch for the first time ever. The game will also be available to Xbox players on Xbox Game Pass on day one, continuing a partnership that began last year when the game was made available on Xbox for the first time.

All three versions of MLB The Show 22 will also feature cross-progression and cross-play. This means that any content players earn in modes like Diamond Dynasty or Road to the Show will be transferrable to any platform.
