Candy Teaser Trailer Previews Hulu’s 5-Part True-Crime Drama

Hulu has released the first Candy teaser trailer for its upcoming limited series, centering around the true-crime case of Candy Montgomery’s murder of Betty Gore. It is set as a five-night event that will start streaming on Monday, May 9, leading up to the finale on Friday, May 13.

The Candy teaser trailer provides us with our first look at Jessica Biel’s portrayal of the titular ax killer. It highlights her friendship with Melanie Lynskey’s Betty, who seems aloof towards her.

“Candy Montgomery is a 1980 housewife and mother who did everything right – good husband, two kids, nice house, even the careful planning and execution of transgressions,” reads the synopsis. “But when the pressure of conformity builds within her, her actions scream for just a bit of freedom. With deadly results.

Candy is written by Robin Veith, with Michael Uppendahl directing the pilot. It stars Jessica Biel (The Sinner), Timothy Simons (Veep), Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Pablo Schreiber (Halo), and Raúl Esparza (Dopesick). Executive producers are Biel and Michelle Purple through their Iron Ocean banner along with Uppendahl, Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, and Lindsey McManus.

Candy is a co-production between UCP and 20th Television. Jim Atkinson and John Bloom have signed on as consulting producers. Interestingly, the Candy Montgomery story is also getting a limited series adaptation at HBO Max titled Love and Death, with Emmy nominee Elizabeth Olsen as its lead.
