Johnny Depp‘s set the first round of the Modi cast, revealing a star-studded cast for his upcoming directorial effort, according to a recent report from Deadline.

Who is in the cast of Modi?

The Modi cast will bed led by Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio (John Wick: Chapter 2), and will also feature Pierre Niney (Yves Saint Laurent), and acting legend Al Pacino (The Godfather).

According to Deadline, filming is set to begin sometime this fall in Budapest. The project is based on a play by Dennis McIntyre, and being adapted for the screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski.

The biopic will tell the story of Italian artist Amedeo Clemente Modigliani, often known as just Modigliani. It will chronicle his time in Paris in 1916, and his interactions with French artist Maurice Utrillo, the Belarusian-born Chaim Soutine and his English muse and lover, Beatrice Hastings.

Producer Barry Navidi said in a statement that he and Pacino have been pursuing the development of the film for “many years,” and he’s excited to make the moment come true.

“This is a snapshot of Modigliani’s life that gives us insight into his struggle as an artist suffering from lack of recognition, and a project Al and I have pursued for many years,” said Navidi. “Our incredible cast, coupled with the vision, wit and sensitivity I know Johnny will bring behind the camera, will make this a dream come true.”

Modi will also be Depp’s second directorial effort following his work behind the camera in 1997’s The Brave, a film he starred in alongside Marlon Brando. It’s currently unknown whether or not Depp will star or appear in Modi.
