The only thing better than watching Denzel Washington in a thriller is seeing him turn up in a supernatural thriller. This underrated 1998 gem is one of his few horror credits to date. So we are so happy Fallen is now available on Tubi. Allow us to share our notes on this classic film for those that might’ve missed out on it.
Rotten Tomatoes Synopsis
“After witnessing the execution of serial killer Edgar Reese (Elias Koteas), whom he arrested, police detective John Hobbes (Denzel Washington), and his partner, Jonesy (John Goodman), are soon investigating another murderer whose mode of operation is eerily similar to Reese’s. In the course of the investigation, Hobbes meets theology professor Gretta Milano (Embeth Davidtz), who introduces him to the world of the occult and the possibility that an evil spirit is behind the killings.”

Film Recommendation #018 1998’s #Fallen. #DenzelWashington Washington plays a cop who is chasing after a serial killer that he knows was caught and executed but is somehow still at large. Dark, tense, a great chase scene down a street where Denzel is the only one running pic.twitter.com/viVCV7ORYd

Rewatched #Fallen (1998) for the first time in 20+ years and while it’s not as scary or suspenseful as I found it as a kid. I love seeing Denzel Washington do horror. Sad that Fallen and The Bone Collector are his only two horror-adjacent films in his massive career. pic.twitter.com/bbwDY23Agd

As a multi-genre screenwriter, people often ask what my favorite horror film influence is expecting me to say Hitchcock, but no, it’s this brilliant gem starring Denzel Washington from 1998- amazing, terrifying, worth watching again and again. #Fallen pic.twitter.com/Lq7ycBAw6F
