After announcing last week that she and her estranged husband, Jim Toth, would be divorcing, Reese Witherspoon made it official by filing the paperwork!
According to court documents obtained by TMZ on Saturday, the 47-year-old actress filed divorce papers in Nashville, where the former couple was raising their 10-year-old son Tennessee James. As for the reason she cited behind the split? The old catch-all: “irreconcilable differences.”
When Reese and Jim announced their divorce, fans were no doubt surprised by the news, especially since it was days before their 12th wedding anniversary. They seemed like they were going to be one of those rare Hollywood couples who go the distance. However, it turns out that wasn’t the case! Although Reese cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their divorce, plenty of reports have come out over the past week about why things actually did not work out – including that they no longer had “romantic feelings for each other.”

Meanwhile, The Sun reported that Jim was having a “midlife crisis” – wearing “chunky weird jewelry” and getting new tattoos – leading Reese to pull the plug on their marriage. But more than that? DeuxMoi claimed his “wandering eye” became a problem for the actress:
“He’s had a wandering eye for years, but she’s turned a blind eye and basically has been OK with it — as long as it never got out or got back to her. She only asked for discretion, and apparently, he’s been getting sloppy.”
Yikes…
With these details in mind, it looks like The Morning Show star is doing whatever she can to make sure their divorce doesn’t get messy. Per TMZ, Reese noted in her divorce paperwork that she and Jim signed a prenup in March 2011, stating that the agreement is valid and provides “adequate and sufficient provisions” for their assets and debts. Considering the Legally Blonde star has been quietly separating her finances from Jim for around two years now, this does not shock us.
Reese then said she was submitting the prenup, along with a permanent parenting plan for their son to the judge for approval. Apparently, Reese and James will also be required to attend a mandatory parenting class and submit a certificate of completion to the court in 60 days.
Not only did she take the first steps in making their split official, but it looks like she made some big changes in her life too. What is it, you might ask? She ditched her wedding ring.
