Mind Leech, a new horror film from writer/director Chris Cheeseman and co-director Paul Krysinski, is a promising addition to the independent horror genre. The film combines elements of creature horror and humor for an overall fun to watch movie experience.

Making the best of the pandemic lockdowns, Chris Cheeseman and Paul Krysinski used the extra time to bring their first horror film to life. The result is a fully-realized origin story for what has the potential to become a popular creature feature franchise.

The synopsis of Mind Leech is as follows:

A very persuasive Leech is wreaking havoc in rural Provinstate, 1998. On a mission to expand its horizons, our influential invertebrate enlists the help of the local townsfolk. The Police are soon on the tail of our pesky parasite….

“It would take some time but I put together a team of talented and experienced people, most of whom I’d met while working in unionized SPFX in Toronto,” said Cheeseman. The expertise of this team is clearly visible in Mind Leech, as the film showcases their meticulous execution of each scene and their ability to elevate the feature through beautiful cinematography, despite its low budget.

Cheeseman candidly revealed that Mind Leech represents uncharted territory for him as this marks his first foray into both producing and directing.

Despite this, he demonstrated exceptional skills in bringing this film to life. It’s clear that with continued efforts, Cheeseman and his team have a bright future ahead of them in the film industry.

Mind Leech can be described in one word: Spontaneous. Both in front of and behind the camera, the film was made in an improvisational manner, with only the bare minimum of planning necessary for safety and insurance purposes. The rest was decided on the day, as the production adapted to availability and weather conditions.

The creative process was collaborative, with actors contributing to the writing of their own lines and development of their characters.

The film was made possible through a dedicated and talented team of professionals, who were able to bring their own unique touch to the story.

Despite the challenges posed by the harsh Canadian winter, the team had a blast making Mind Leech.
