Evil Dead Rise did a lot of things right and a few things wrong. Overall though, audiences seemed to have enjoyed it more than those who did not. One of the things that Evil Dead Rise did right, other than the vinyl recordings was the fact that we got some creature-like effects that matched the likes of Henrietta.
Early in Evil Dead Rise we are given a tease in the Necronomicon of the levels and types of Deadites that the group would run into. Of course, one of the more disturbing is the boss battle with The Maurader. This Deadite is made out of multiple Deadites all fused together in a spider-like creature with arms and legs going every which way.
The Maurader
A lot The Maurader’s screen time is cut-short by darkness and editing. Today, however, the creature designer shared a close-up look at the Deadite, and boy is she impressive.
Thanks to the recent release of the film’s blu-ray and 4K UHD we got a much closer look at the creature. Also, thanks to the image that OddStudios shared via Insta, we can get into the nitty-gritty of the beast. Check it out for yourself below.
Personally, I was upset that Evil Dead Rise didn’t go in more of a Demons 2 approach. Much like the plot of Demons 2, Evil Dead Rise also takes place in a high-rise building. The big difference is that in Demons 2 we were introduced to several of the building’s tenants. So, it was happening all of the building. In family homes, at parties, basically all over. Sadly, in Evil Dead Rise it only occurs inside the family home and tells the fates of others through a keyhole. A bigger expansion and more characters would have made for a much more fun experience.
