Fans are patiently waiting for the new Exorcist film titled The Exorcist: Believer. The original film, being deemed “The scariest movie of all time” has a lot of hype and expectations surrounding it, especially since it is a direct sequel to that film and ignoring all the sequels. It was revealed today that the film is officially rated R for Some Violent Content, Disturbing Images, Language, and Sexual References. The Exorcist: Believer Synopsis states “Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding has raised their daughter, Angela on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine, disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil”

First released in theaters in 1973, The Exorcist would become a major hit at the box office and shock people who came to see it. The film would go on to make $428.2M on a $12M budget. It would be one of the only horror films ever nominated for best picture. It would end up taking home 2 Academy awards for Best Writing and Best Sound. It would then end up having several sequels, 2 prequels, and a tv series on Fox.

The new Exorcist trilogy is being directed by David Gordon Green and is being released by BlumhouseUniversal, and Morgan Creek. The film is set to bring back Ellen Bursytn (The Exorcist, Interstellar) as Chris MacNeil. It will also star Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery), Jennifer Nettles (Singer/Songwriter), Olivia Marcum (Matilda the Musical, and Lidya Jewett (Nightbooks, Feel the Beat).
