Too Many MCU Shows Diluted Interest in Marvel, Says Bob

Disney CEO Bob Iger cited too many Marvel Cunematic Universe shows as a reason for diluted interest in Marvel. Iger’s remarks came during a recent conversation with CNBC’s David Faber at the Sun Valley Conference, in which the CEO said: “There have been some disappointments. We would have liked some of our more recent releases to perform better. It’s reflective not as a problem from a personnel perspective, but I think in our zeal to basically grow our content significantly to serve mostly our streaming offerings, we ended up taxing our people way beyond — in terms of their time and their focus — way beyond where they had been.”

Per Variety, Iger continued: “They had not been in the TV business at any significant level. Not only did they increase their movie output, but they ended up making a number of television series, and frankly, it diluted focus and attention. That is, I think, more of the cause than anything.”

How Many MCU Shows Have There Been On Disney+ So Far?

Since the launch of Disney Plus in 2019, there have been nine Disney Plus shows within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They are, in order of release: WandaVision (2021), The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), Loki season 1 (2021), What If…? season 1 (2021), Hawkeye (2021), Moon Knight (2022), Ms. Marvel (2022), She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022). Most recently, Disney Plus released the six-episode Secret Invasion.

There have also been two television specials: Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, both in 2022.

Moving forward, and continuing into Phase 5 of the MCU, Loki season 2 will be released on October 6. That will be followed by Echo, which debuts in its entirety on November 29. What If…? season 2, Ironheart, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again also have tentative release plans.
