Prime Video scraps A League of Their Own Season 2

A League of Their Own is going in the dugout: Prime Video has canceled the second and final season of its series re-imagining of the classic 1992 film, Variety reports.

Sources said the cancellation is due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have effectively shut down all major studios. This setback would have delayed the debut of the second season until at least 2025, whereas the first season premiered in August 2022. Following the eight-episode pilot season, it was greenlit for a four-episode Season 2.

Co-created by Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and Will Graham (Mozart In the Jungle), the A League of Their Own series was adapted from Penny Marshall’s film of the same name, focusing on an all-female team of aspiring pro baseball players while simultaneously exploring themes of race and sexuality. The show starred Jacobson along with D’Arcy Carden, Chante Adams, Melanie Field, and Kate Berlant.

In an Instagram post responding to the show’s cancelation, Jacobson wrote, “What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much. What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today.”

“To blame this cancellation on the strike is bullshit and cowardly,” she added. But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today… This post here is about the special show I was lucky to make with so many incredibly talented artists and actors and writers and crew. A show I’m so proud of. Filled to the brim with stories worth telling. Full of so much heart and soul and value… Thank you for watching.”

Consequence caught up with the cast and creators of A League of Their Own last year; revisit that here.
