Ahead of Outlander‘s return for its seventh season consisting of 16 episodes, Starz has announced that the Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan-led fantasy drama has officially been renewed for its eighth and final season. The series is still currently in production in Scotland for Season 7, which will premiere sometime this summer.

This announcement also came with the released of a brand new video, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the cast on set as they share their gratitude to fans who have been supporting them since the beginning.

“For nearly a decade Outlander has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and we’re pleased to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion,” Starz’s President of Original Programming, Kathryn Busby said in a statement. “But before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes and even more to explore of this dynamic world and its origin story. We’re thrilled to continue to partner with Matthew, Maril, and Ronald and can’t wait to see where their alluring storytelling takes us next.”

In addition, Starz has also given a series order to the Outlander prequel titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will explore the love story of Jamie’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen Mackenzie. The project will be executive produced and written by Matthew B. Roberts, who is also set as the showrunner. It will also be executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis.

Based on Diana Gabaldon’s ongoing bestselling novel series, Outlander begins when a 20th Century military nurse in 1945 has found herself transported back in time to 1743, where she gets to meet and fall in love with Highland warrior Jamie Fraser. It stars Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Duncan Lacroix, David Berry, César Domboy, Lauren Lyle, Colin McFarlane, Caitlin O’Ryan, and more.

Outlander is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Matthew B. Roberts, Toni Graphia, Andy Harries, and Jim Kohlberg. It is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Left Bank Pictures, and Story Mining & Supply Co., in association with Sony Pictures Television.
