Maher is known for hosting his HBO talk show, Real Time with Bill Maher, starting in 2003. Prior to this, he hosted Politically Incorrect for ABC and Comedy Central from 1993 to 2002.
Maher has often talked about the president on his HBO show. During the recent June 19 episode, the late-night host took aim at President Trump while discussing news about a popular candy.
As Maher noted, reports have come out that M&Ms would be discontinuing its blue, as well as brown, pieces, with Mars planning to release a dye-free offering. Removing artificial dyes in food is something that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been outspoken about as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
President Donald Trump Shared A Truth Social Post About The Reflecting Pools The Following Day
As Maher shared, “Bobby Kennedy is getting rid of the blue M&Ms. The blue dye in the M&Ms is very bad for you.” It was then that Maher segued into a joke about the White House. As he continued, he teased, “They’re gonna get rid of the blue dye out of the M&Ms and pour it directly into the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.”
The reference to the reflecting pool wasn’t that random, as Maher soon explained. As he asked his audience, “Have you seen what’s going on with that, with the Reflecting Pool? Drain the swamp? Now there’s one in the middle of town.”
As noted by TV Insider, Maher then explained some recent efforts from Trump to improve the appearance of the pool. He continued, “Trump thought that the pool was looking a little tired — it used to be a 10, and then it was like a six. I’m not against spiffying-up the Capitol. But is there anything they try to do that they don’t f*** up?” I mean, Trump wanted it bluer, and now it’s green with algae.”
Maher then connected the situation with the recent peace deal with Iran. He shared, “And they can’t figure out how to get the algae under control, but they did get it to sign a memorandum of understanding.”
The following day, on June 20, Trump shared an update regarding the pool on Truth Social: “The United States Park Police have arrested multiple individuals for vandalizing our Nation’s magnificent Reflecting Pool. Who would do such a thing? These are very serious crimes having to do with the destruction of National Monuments. Years in jail! Work will begin immediately on its repair. President DJT.”
