FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is one of the highest rated games in recent memory, sitting at a 96 on OpenCritic. A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin took note of its success, posting a blog celebrating the high marks of the game with the world he helped build.

His blog (complete with a “thumbs up” PNG image) about it is rather short, but seemed to grasp the game’s impact, posting a few praiseworthy reviews and quotes. While not skimming over the fact that his involvement diminishes his ability to be objective, he gives plenty of credit the FromSoftware and Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, one of the main figures behind the team’s soulslike titles.

“Of course, almost all the credit should go to Hidetaka Miyazaki and his astonishing team of games designers who have been laboring on this game for half a decade or more, determined to create the best videogame ever,” he said. “I am honored to have met them and worked with them, and to have have played a part, however small, in creating this fantastic world and making Elden Ring the landmark megahit that it is.”

Even though it’s not included in the blog, his tweet linking to the post shows him wearing the helmet worn by Malenia Blade of Miquella, a key figure in the lore and one of the first characters in the reveal trailer.
