Channing Tatum Opened Up About How His “Magic Mike” Body

“That’s not even healthy. You have to starve yourself.”

For context, a third Magic Mike movie has been announced and will see Channing return as the titular Mike on HBO Max. We don’t know a ton about it yet, as it’s likely still in the very early stages of production.

So, when Kelly showed Channing a shirtless photo of himself in Magic Mike XXL, he replied, “That might be the reason why I didn’t want to do a third one, is I have to look like that.”

“Even if you do work out, to be that kind of in shape is not natural.”

When asked if preparing for the movie involves eating well, Channing replied, “Well? That’s not even healthy. You have to starve yourself. I don’t think that when you’re that lean it’s actually healthy.”

“I don’t know how people that work a 9–5 actually stay in shape, because it’s my full-time job and I can barely do it,” he continued, saying that he has to work out twice a day and eat at specific times.

As for the food he misses most when preparing for the movies, it’s, “probably salt. When you need to get really close to the day where you’ve got to be butt-naked on screen, everything just tastes like water. It’s just nothing.”

Especially now that he’s older, Channing said that he finds the weight fluctuations harder to deal with. “It takes two months to get really lean, but in three days you can lose it,” he explained.

This mirrors what Channing said on the talkshow last year. “As someone who works out for a job, I promise you I would not look like this unless I had to be naked in most of my movies mostly,” he said. “At some point, I have to get better at acting so I don’t have to be naked in all of them.”
