Nick Cutter’s 2015 underwater thriller, The Deep, is being developed into a series for Amazon. C. Henry Chaisson will write and executive produce The Deep. You might know Chaisson’s work from Antlers or AppleTV’s Servant. Not much is known about the series at this time, but we expect sheer horror from what we know about the book.

The Deep - A Novel Stephen King Called C. Henry Chaisson

The Book’s Synopsis

Set in the near future, The Deep centers on a research station at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, where a miraculous discovery signals a new hope for humanity – but secrets unearthed on the ocean floor might hold devastating consequences for the world above.

In The Deep, a plague causes people to forget things. During an interview with Paul Semel, author Cutter said:

I think I wanted what might be seen as a “soft” plague: it developed slowly, and the symptoms were kind of different than some other fictional plagues, which are usually fast spreading diseases typified by rampant societal collapse. This is more of a slow erosion. People kind of keep trying to do what they’re doing. There’s time, really. It’s not happening so fast that people in society can’t hope to find some kind of remedy.

The book might have been ahead of its time, but it is now way too close to home. The Deep did manage to get on the radar of some of our favorite horror authors though, including Stephen King. King described The Deep as, “Scary as hell,” in a Tweet in 2016.

When King says your book is scary, we all lean forward. We will be keeping an eye out for updates on the project. Let us know if you have read The Deep. If so, are you excited to see it adapted for TV? Let me know at @misssharai.
