American Genre Film Archive is at it again by doing more awesome stuff. John Carpenter’s amazing, action, home-invasion film is incredible and only getting better with his AGFA restoration and theatrical re-release. So, not only does Assault on Precinct 13 look incredible, but we are also going to be able to see it in theaters to boot.

The synopsis for Assault on precinct 13 goes like this:

When the LAPD kills several members of the South Central gang Street Thunder, the remaining members avenge themselves by way of a bloody war waged against cops and citizens alike. Caught in the crossfire is Lt. Ethan Bishop (Austin Stoker), who’s managing a skeleton crew at the local and soon-to-be-closed police precinct. As the gang members close in, Bishop forms an unlikely alliance with a group of prisoners in order to defend the station and the lives of everyone in it.

“It’s an honor to represent Carpenter’s legacy, given how much personal joy his work has created for us,” said AGFA Theatrical Director Bret Berg. “When it’s something as iconic as PRECINCT 13—akin to the heartstopping majesty of HALLOWEEN—we’re driven to get this taut masterwork in front of as many audiences as we can. Big thanks to the CKK Corporation for shepherding this new restoration.”

I have to say, just looking at the restored trailer above is making my jaw drop. The work that AGFA put into this restoration has a beautiful clarity, but it is a careful clarity that still maintains the original film’s grain and weight.

The complete list of theaters re-releasing is as follows. If you do have one in your location and call yourself a Carpenter fan, you can’t miss this one.
