According to Dateline, Jamie Campbell Bower just signed on for his next creepy project. He will be joining the Chuck Russell reboot of Witchboard. The 1980s horror film spawned a trilogy that taught us to not play with Ouija boards is coming back to scare a new generation.
In the original film, when his girlfriend becomes dangerously obsessed with a ghost she contacted using an Ouija board, Jim reluctantly joins forces with her ex—and his own estranged childhood best friend—to identify and exorcise the evil spirit.
The original Witchboard was written and directed by Kevin Tenney. It stars Todd Allen, Tawny Kitaen, Stephen Nichol, and Kathleen Wilhoite.
It is currently streaming on Plex, Pluto TV, Prime Video, Redbox, Tubi, and Vudu. The sequel, Witchboard 2: The Devil’s Doorway, is currently available on VOD.
Witchboard III: The Possession is not currently available on streaming platforms. It was also the first installment not directed by Tenney. However, he did co-write the script.
The remake begins filming in May with locations set for Montreal and New Orleans.
Jamie Campbell Bower’s Horror History
Jamie Campbell Bower has a history of sticking close to the weird, fantastic, and disturbing. His genre credits include Stranger Things (Season 4), various installments of The Twilight Saga, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Bower also dubbed himself “The Witch King” last summer before dropping a new music video that makes a good case for that title.
Russell’s genre credits include the remake of The Blob, Bless the Child, and Nightmare On Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors.
So a Russell and Bower team-up seems like a match made in heaven (or hell) to me. But what do I know? I’m bad at math.
