Steven Spielberg’s cat and mouse classic Duel is the one that launched Speilberg’s career into orbit. The made-for-TV movie featured a gentleman driving across the desert and being constantly harassed by someone in an 18-wheeler. Duel shows what Speilberg can do within the runtime for this tightly wound-thriller. Now Duel is coming to 4K.
Duel is one of those films that has held up over the years. Dennis Weaver’s role is subtle and awesome all at once. Speilberg manages to make a film all about a dude in a car really compelling and at times all-out white knuckle.
The synopsis for Duel goes like this:
David Mann (Dennis Weaver), a mild-mannered electronics salesman, is driving cross-country on a two-lane highway when he encounters an old oil tanker driven by an unseen driver who seems to enjoy annoying him with dangerous antics on the road. Unable to escape the demonic big rig, David finds himself in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the monstrous truck. When the pursuit escalates to deadly levels, David must summon his inner warrior and turn the tables on his tormentor.
