Jeremy Renner is in “critical but stable condition” from injuries sustained in a snow plow accident in Reno, Nevada on Sunday.
“We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, January 2nd 2023,” the actor’s family said in a statement released on Monday evening. “He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.”
TMZ reports that Renner was using a machine called Snow Cat to remove snow from his home, near Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe. (The region saw upwards of 18 inches of snow on New Year’s Eve.) At some point, the machine accidentally ran over his body, resulting in a substantial loss of blood. A neighbor, who is a doctor, was able to put a tourniquet on his leg until paramedics arrived. He was then airlifted to a local hospital.
In a statement, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a “traumatic injury” in the area of Mt. Rose Highway in Reno at approximately 9:00 a.m. local time on January 1st, 2023. “Upon arrival, Deputies coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for medical transport of Mr. Jeremy Renner via care flight to a local area hospital. Mr. Renner was the only involved party in the incident.”
Renner, a two-time Academy Award nominee, currently stars in The Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+ and Hawkeye on Disney+.
