Why Buffy The Vampire Slayer is The Perfect Show to Rewatch For Halloween

Why Buffy The Vampire Slayer is The Perfect Show to Rewatch For Halloween

Let’s all be honest: Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the most iconic TV shows of all time for a reason.

Every TV fan has tuned into an episode or, at the very least, heard other TV enjoyers gushing about the genius of the show.

While there are plenty of shows returning and premiering during the fall season, nothing beats a rewatch of a show that perfectly helps you prepare for spooky season.

With the way Buffy the Vampire Slayer is written, there are plenty of reasons to revisit this show.

But there are also plenty of ways to do it if you don’t want to get overwhelmed. Let’s take a look!

Buffy’s Format Makes It Easy To Jump Back In

I’m personally a victim of the mindset that it can be hard to rewatch or really get invested in shows with a lot of episodes.

Buffy has over 144 episodes, each spanning around 45 minutes to an hour, and while that might be light work for some people, others might be too busy to commit to a complete rewatch.

However, the show’s format makes rewatches extremely simple.

Firstly, Buffy is excellent at the “monster of the week” format, often featuring unique stories and threatening enemies for Buffy to fight.

Not many shows nowadays have achieved that to the same degree with a similar amount of creativity and commitment to providing something innovative to new and long-time viewers alike.

On top of that, there are overarching character storylines, including Buffy’s love triangle with Spike and Angel, that run across seasons and add more fun to the rewatch when you know what the result will be.

So if you’re stuck trying to decide where to start your rewatch, I would totally recommend scrolling down the highest-rated episodes on IMDB and picking a random episode with your eyes closed.

Or if you have some extra time on your hands, you could also pick your favorite season and start the rewatch that way.

Buffy is the Perfect Combination of Horror and Comedy

If you’re like me, horror movies might not be the first choice when it comes to preparing for the spooky season.

While Buffy has elements of horror, it also has great comedic moments in the mix.

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s line deliveries are a fantastic contrast to the gory and gruesome situations she finds herself in.

Also, the ensemble cast of characters, especially Cordelia, has some fantastic one-liners that help break the overarching tensions as the crew fight against whatever monster is threatening Sunnydale.

Buffy is also a perfect way to ease into some of the more “hardcore” horror content, as the monsters and scary moments never get too intense.

But it also has all the elements of a show in the horror genre, as it never shies away from showcasing the blood and the stake stabbings.

After all, the word “vampires” is in the title of the show.

Our Post-Twilight World Still Needs Buffy

In a post-Twilight world, vampires might be seen as overrated.

Thankfully, rewatching Buffy helps remind you why vampires have earned their spot as one of the most notable Halloween creatures.

At the end of the day, there are absolutely countless more reasons to rewatch Buffy.

You don’t need to wait until September, but as the leaves start turning orange, it’s the perfect time to tune back into this fantastic show.
